Premiere: The Draughtsman – Vertical
Warm lines and an architectural grace mark this one-off project from London producer Alex Egan as something special.
Words by: Ruth Saxelby
Listen closely to The Draughtsman, because this is his first and only outing. The man behind the man is London producer Alex Egan, who you may recall was one half of disbanded Dummy favourites Skull Juice (check their Dummy Mix from way back in ’09), and this one-off project of a single, if extensive, EP titled ‘1694’ (via How The Other Half Lives) was recorded while Egan was living in Hove in the winter of 2010/11 and is “based on a film I’m a bit obsessed with”. Vertical, one of the central tracks from ‘1694’ which Dummy is chuffed to premiere today, lives somewhere between house, ambient techno and dreamy pop, and has a warmth and architectural grace that’s impossible to resist. How The Other Half Lives releases The Draughtsman’s ‘1694’ EP on 4th February 2013, including a vinyl-exclusive Daniel Avery remix.
